About the project
The reader matters as much as the category.
Best Book Recommendations is an independent fiction-discovery project built around a simple observation: the book that fits you today may not resemble the books you usually choose.
Most recommendation systems begin with your history or a genre. We begin with the person opening the book—their present attention, emotional appetite, boundaries and willingness to be surprised. A short set of questions becomes a brief for one recommendation, delivered privately by email.
Why only one book?
A list often returns the original problem in a tidier form. One considered choice removes comparison, lowers the noise and gives an unfamiliar story a fair chance to be met.
What we publish
Our reading guides explore the practical questions around finding fiction: how mood changes taste, why good books arrive at the wrong moment, and how to return when reading has begun to feel like work. We also created the Reading Mood Map, a six-part vocabulary for naming the story experience you need.
Independence
Publishers and authors cannot pay to be recommended. We do not sell placement in the recommendation service or disguise advertising as editorial judgment. The full selection and corrections standards are set out in our editorial policy.
Contact
Authors and publishers can use the submission page. Readers can reply to an email from the service if a recommendation or guide needs our attention.
